Post Eclipse in Virgo: New Me?

Sara El-Sayeh

I've been feeling a whole lot since the eclipse. I can understand why, I have 5 planets in Virgo - all my personal planets - so it only makes sense..

There has been a lot going on, feelings of despair, of hopelessness and disappointment. It has been a lot.

I had a very simple family constellation where it was just me, my mother and our umbilical cord. I don't know if it's mine or hers, if the umbilical cord that connected us is ours, I guess it's ours. Because when I think of "my" umbilical cord, I think of the one my body built to connect me to my children...

It's been a lot to digest and integrate this even though it was a very simple constellation - there was a lot of presence in the room. My daughter was also there with me, my almost 3 year old attended my constellation.

What this has been revealing is...

What I dream of bringing back is the village, the togetherness, and so an image emerged: that of the مجلس or magles which can translate into a coming together, or council. The Arabs have historically come together to tell stories and share poetry, to eat together, no plates, no cutlery. Inside or outside by the fire, the common thread is one of being together.

So maybe what I'm trying to weave here is this:

a magles.

What's present to me right now are the following images:

  • the thread: the desire for something different, something new, something whole and wholesome, it's our spark
  • the loom: at the loom, we gather our threads and scraps of ideas, images and desires and create something out of them
  • the fabric: similar to how the sewing patter holds the image of the finished product, the fabric is an image of a future we want to see - and we work our way towards it. Putting the pieces together to create the "finished piece"
  • the hearth: basically where we gather and learn/unlearn, tell stories, hold desires and yearnings together and with the land. Modeled after mujawaraah, neighboring, these gatherings are slow, intelligent and emergent.

I love to talk about collapse, imagination and liberation, poeticizing the mundane + contemplating belonging/othering under modernity. I'm a Work that Reconnects facilitator, Offers + Needs Markets facilitator + an energy facilitator. I'm currently working on a collection of essays on post-colonial mothering.
